Rice Go Club Constitution 1. The name of this organization is the "Rice Go Club". 2. The purpose of this organization shall be as follows: a) introduce people to and teach them the game of Go b) organize Go related events c) provide a place to practice and compete 3. Members of this organization shall be as follows: a) Regular members: all students at Rice and their spouses are eligible. b) Faculty members: all Rice faculty members and their spouses are eligible. c) Associate members: all non-Rice persons are eligible. d) All officers must be students at Rice University. 4. All members must pay the established annual membership fee. 5. Decisions must be made by a simple majority of club officers unless 25% of the total club members are present, in which case decisions will be decided by a simple majority of all club persons present. 6. The executive committee will consist of the following: a) the President, who shall oversee all the meetings and activities, and who shall make sure that, at all times, the organization is abiding by the rules and regulations set forth by the Student Association of Rice University. In the case that a representative is needed, the president will represent the organization. b) the Vice-president, who shall be responsible for documenting all association paperwork, who will distribute the minutes from all meetings, and who, in the absence of the President, should fulfill his tasks. c) the Treasurer, who shall maintain a correct balance of the organization's funds, who shall keep track of the checkbook of the organization, and who shall regularly make available a written breakdown of the income and expenses of the organization. 7. Members of the executive committee shall be elected by general vote from the pool of candidates every year by a majority vote of all members present. The election must be announced on the club mailing list at least a week in advance. The pool of candidates shall be composed of volunteers who have been seconded by another club member. 8. Funds may be spent only by the President and the Treasurer. Two officer signatures are required for each check, one always being the treasurer's. 9. Selection of a Faculty/Staff Sponsor for the organization should occur when the need arises. The Sponsor should have an interest in the game of Go and can be nominated by any member of the club. If more than one Faculty/Staff member is nominated then the Sponsor will be selected in the same way as members of the executive committee (7). 10. Amendments to the organization's constitution can only be made with the approval of a majority of the club members present, who must compose at least 25% of the total club members, as well as a majority of club officers or via an online vote by a majority of all the members.
